4 day teacher training in Brisbane, Queensland
28th- 31st August, 2010

CONTENT:
This 4 day (20 hour) training will combine lecture, small group work and asana practice. Timetable each day  9.30am till 12pm; 1pm till 3.30pm

Day 1 Freedom of the Hip Joint: Asana, Anatomy, and Therapeutics
The hip joint is our key joint for standing and walking. It is also the key joint for most yoga poses. In this class we will discuss briefly the basic anatomy of the joint, its normal range of motion, how individual differences shape our yoga practice, which poses are useful for stretching it, and what makes “opening the hip” difficult.  Then for most of the time we will be practising asana and will focus on hip movements and deal with problems with this core joint in asana.

Day 2  The Back, part one
Lower Back Pain: the lumbar spine, the sacroiliac joint and asana
Many yoga students complain of lower back and/or sacroiliac pain. In this workshop, we will learn the basic anatomy of this area and immediately apply that knowledge to hands on discovery and observation of others. Our goal is to learn therapeutic movement to decrease pain and create normal function. Once we have a basic understanding of the structure and function of the area, we will practice asana together with our new awareness.
Day 3  The Back,  part two
Yoga teachers often are asked to work with students with a variety of musculo-skeletal problems such as flat backs, too much lordosis or kyphosis, flat cervical spines and scoliosis. This workshop will focus on these conditions with a question answer and practice format.
 Day 4
The Doshas: how asana can help with anxiety, anger and depression
Many people in modern culture suffer from anxiety, anger and/or depression. This workshop will combine Western theories about these conditions with a brief introduction to what Ayurveda (the Indian science of medicine) teaches as well. We will practise asanas and pranayamas that can be helpful.
